Each year on the eve of the birth of Saint John of Rigas in many neighborhoods of Greece but also in our place, Laconian Mani, after vespers in church, a custom is being revived with origins from antiquity. We lit fires in the neighborhoods.. as the song says and we burn the yeast wreaths, the oldest remember to burn the old oregano together with dry herbs but many times also salt. The fires we light are three. A symbolism of purification, for some a symbolism of a new beginning. Young and old participate in the festival and pass over the fire three times. Herbs, fire as well as the elements of nature are always captivating people. Nowadays, herbs, specifically our oregano, are harvested with care and patience, tied in bunches hanging in a dry and shady place until to be dried in a completely natural way. It is then rubbed by hand and packed in glass jars only leaves and its flower. The our oregano, picked by our hands, this oregano is ours , it is characterized by its excellent aroma and its strong taste, while at the same time, it is considered one of the best in the world. This is a small tasty treasure with multiple beneficial properties. Our Promise Our family has been cultivating on their own properties for many years, besides oregano, olives and other aromatic herbs. Our goal is always to highlight and promote unique firsts materials of our place, of Laconian Mani. The family's new and most favorite venture is harvesting and standardization of "white gold" as it is called in Mani, the flower of salt!
